Business Traveling In The Time Of Generation Y

With the maturity of generation X, the next one (Generation Y or the Millennials) is going to take over the roles which will involve a significant portion of traveling for work. Being born and grew up in the digital age with different working standards, the Millennials will change how businesses view business traveling.

Flexibility

Nowadays employees can work anytime anywhere as long as they can assure the quality of the work. Many companies recruit employees to work remotely from another country in a different time zone, which means these employees can work in the evening and handle other activities in the daytime.

The statistics for marrying and having kids are also alleviating the restrictions on businessmen and women who travel a lot. Only 26% of Millennials got married compared to 36% of Generation X. Besides, childbirth rate is hitting bottom in the US and many other developed nations. As a result, this freedom allows workers to travel more without worrying about their families at home. They can even spend some days off to enjoy a quick holiday for themselves before returning to the company.

Expenditure

It is totally reasonable to spend more than usual on a holiday even it is in a business trip. Scientists announce that more than 60% of Millennials who are on a business trip tend to spend extra money for extra services like entertainments. However, that fact does not mean they take advantage of companies’ money or waste on budgets. In contrast, with advantages on technology applications and flexible schedule, these employees are saving their businesses a large amount of money compared to other generations.

A unique airline for a unique generation.

That is what Air France offers the Generation Y only. First of all, more flexible office time gives them more choices on which flight to choose. They can avoid high price flights in rush hour or be able to take delayed trips. Secondly, with modern mobile apps, they can hunt for the cheapest tickets and the best hotel deals. Lastly, instead of choosing a luxury hotel/airline, Millennials are staying at Airbnb saving a ton of money.

Gen Y Style

Preparing for a business trip is now a basic and essential skill of Generation Y as they were born in the age of technology. With a smartphone, all they have to do is just making a voice command and their apps will do the rest. Statistically, the number of Millennials shopping on smartphones (including booking flight and hotel) nearly double that figure for Generation X.

All of these changes not only bring back more profit but also require better adaptation to manage work traveling. A travel management system like Maya may be the solution for this situation. Users can access Maya and hunt for cheap flights or hotels.

Nowadays, when recruiting new employees, managers also compare their travel policy and those employees’ one to assure it is suitable for new generation’s traveling habits. If there are differences, adapting is never redundant.
